Rain is liquid precipitation. It falls out of clouds due to gravitational force. Each cloud contains condensing humidity. Depending on temperature ice or water drops build. These waft inside the cloud as long as they are hold by the moving air. The drops consolidate and grow and if they are too heavy to be hold by the moving air they fall out of the clouds towards the earth. Snow develops the same way, but atmospheric temperatures are different.
