GENERAL WEATHER SITUATION
After a calm start into the new week increasingly cold air causes unsettled and frosty winter weather from mid-week on.
WEATHER TODAY
Tuesday starts with local fog or low stratus in the lowland, above and outside it is initially quite suny, above all in east Switzerland. During the forenoon more clouds gather from southwest and starting from Lake Geneva snowfall sets in. Until the afternoon and evening precipitation reaches Jura and the western Plateau, otherwise it remains dry, but clouds get denser, too. Over night snow showers spread to whole Plateau.
Highs range between 0 and +2 degrees in the north, up to +4 degrees on Lago Maggiore.
From Wednesday to Friday arctic air brings frosty temperatures even during the days and weak snowfall down to the lowland from time to time. In the south north wind causes dry weather and milder temperatures on Wednesday, otherwise mostly cloudy, too, with isolated snow showers.
OUTLOOK
The weekend could be partly sunny above low stratus on the Plateau.
MOUNTAIN WEATHER
On Tuesday morning we expect local fog in the valleys, and quite sunny conditions in the central and eastern Alps and Prealps. In Jura and in the west Alps more and dense clouds gather from southwest during the forenoon and temporary snowfall sets in. Otherwise it remains dry, but clouds get denser everywhere towards the evening.
Temperatures Tuesday afternoon:
1500m -2°C
2000m -5°C
2500m -9°C
3000m -11°C
3500m -14°C
From Wednesday to Friday it will be very cold with light snowfall from time to time, especially along the northern side of the Alps. The south is protected by the Alps and it remains dry with north wind on Wednesday, otherwise mostly cloudy, too, with isolated snow showers.
The weekend seems to be quite fair.
